The Oberlin Summer Theater Festival has several paid internships available this summer.

Now going into its 11th season, OSTF is a professional, not-for-profit theater company, operating under the auspices of Oberlin College. We present free productions of family-friendly classics in rotating repertory, attracting a growing and diverse audience from throughout northeastern Ohio. Last summer, almost 13,000 people attended the shows. OSTF’s Acting Company consists of a combination of professional Equity actors, local non-equity players, and undergraduate/graduate interns from around the country. Our senior technical staff is composed of theater professionals and educators from Northeastern Ohio.

This summer we are producing “Butterflies are Free” by Leonard Gershe, William Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure” and “Long Day’s Journey into Night” by Eugene O’Neill. We will also be introducing a new Musical Cabaret series, performing three different sets drawing material from American musicals.

We are currently seeking undergraduate interns for the Oberlin Summer Theater Festival’s upcoming 2019 Season. These are all 9 week commitments: from Thursday, May 30th thru Tuesday July 30th. Mondays are Day Off. All undergraduate interns receive a $1800 stipend plus housing. OSTF provides each intern with a furnished, single, air-conditioned studio-apartment with private bath and kitchenette in an Oberlin College dorm.

Interns must be current or recent college students, and at least 18 years old. Only applicants with prior educational or professional experience in the area of the internship will be considered.

Available Internships include:

GENERAL TECH / PRODUCTION: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, working as part of a team, as needed, on carpentry, rigging, electrics, scene painting, running crew and rep changeovers. Qualified candidates should have some experience in each of these areas, with specialized skills in at least one.  

PROPERTIES COORDINATOR: Responsibilities include, but not limited to, working with TD, Scenic Designers and Stage Managers to pull, locate, rent, and buy (or arrange for the building of) all rehearsal and performance props; then maintain these throughout six-week, three-show rotating-repertory run, including repairs, replenishing consumables, set-ups and change-overs. Valid driver’s license required. Car a plus (gas reimbursed). Prop building experience a plus, but not required.

COSTUMING/WARDROBE ASSISTANTS: Responsibilities include assisting, as needed, with all aspects of costume construction, fitting and alterations. Also, maintenance of all costumes throughout the seven-week, three show rotating-repertory run, including repairs, laundry, set-ups and change-overs. Also, doing quick changes during shows.

STAGE MANAGERS: working as a team, under the supervision of the Production Stage Manager, responsible for duties as assigned, including scheduling and daily communication (especially with actors and staff), running rehearsals (calls, being on book, recording blocking, rehearsal props) and performances (calling show, deck assignment, set up and change-overs). Typically, each SM calls one show and ASMs a second.
